On day 1 the boys had an excellent victory v Worcestershire. Having lost the first three matches there was a concerted fightback ending with an excellent 5-3 victory. Also winning on day 1 were Gloucestershire who beat Staffordshire 5 1/2 to 2 1/2.
On day 2 the boys played Gloucestershire in the morning and in a hard fought contest that was close the whole way gained an honourable half 4 -4 which based on the contest was probably a good outcome for ourselves. Meanwhile a young Staffordshire team overcame Worcestershire 4 1/2 – 3 1/2.
At lunchtime the Warwickshire team were joint top with Gloucestershire with 3 pts, followed by Staffordshire with 2 pts and Worcestershire on zero. It was all to play for in the afternoon though the matches won advantage held by Gloucestershire meant that our boys needed a good win in the afternoon over Staffordshire to potentially become champions.
In the end Gloucestershire romped to an 8-0 victory over Worcestershire and our boys ran out of steam falling short and losing 6-2 to Staffordshire. The overall winners were therefore Gloucestershire with 5pts, Staffordshire second with 4pts, Warwickshire third with 3pts and Worcestershire 4th with 0.
Congratulations to Gloucestershire on their victory and many thanks to Moor Hall Golf Club for hosting a wonderful event in what was almost summer weather.
