The Warwickshire Open featuring the top 25 available players from the Warwickshire Amateur plus our local professionals was played on Thursday in glorious sunshine at a well presented Edgbaston Golf Club.
The course manager had created some interesting pin positions and with the greens running at a good pace the morning competitors found it hard to adjust. The best morning scores were recorded by Rob Tovey and Will Bailey who both shot level par 69. They were followed by Cameron Bridger with a 71 and Rich Bush and Paul Reeves with 72’s. The pro field was led by Chris Freeman who posted a 68.
The afternoon round proved no easier with Will Bailey matching his morning 69 to post a total of 138 level par. No one really got close to challenging him though Elliot Clarkson posted an amateur best of the day 68 to post a 142 total (68+74) which took second place and Cameron Bridger posted a 72 to add to his 71 to take third with a 143 total.
Chris Freeman added a 72 to his 68 to win the professionals event with 140.
The main event which is the T P Cooke Salver (aggregate event with the Amateur) however became very tight. At the start of the day the leaders of this event were Jake Frearson and Jamie Ataria both starting the day on level par. Cameron Bridger was on +3 with Rob Tovey and Richard Bush on +4.
After the morning round the leaderboard was very different with Rich Bush and Rob Tovey now on +4, Cameron Bridger and Jamie Ataria on +6 and Will Bailey on +9. Jake Frearson was now +10. The afternoon became highly competitive and close with 3rd place eventually going to Rob Tovey on +10 (288) for the 72 holes of both events, Will Bailey playing himself into second place at +9 (287) and Cameron Bridger edging them both out at +8 (286).
Congratulations To Cameron in adding his name to a trophy full of prestigious names in golf not just the county.
