Winning U14's team at Alfreton Golf Club

Alfreton are the regular hosts for the U14 Boys 4 Counties scratch matchplay championship. A cool and breezy morning greeted us, but soon hotted up in terms of both the weather and a tightly contested matchplay championship.

Alfreton’s 10 hole layout is perfect to host the matches between the 4 Counties which come in thick and fast with the opening match teeing off at 8.30am - 6 counting matches and 1 rubber in each match.

Warwickshire started slowly in the first match against Staffordshire - securing just one win (Logan) and one halved game (Harper). The other matches were tight and with a strong belief and great camaraderie within the team, the boys were ready to fight back against a strong Nottinghamshire side. Byron, Logan and Jacob were the first three matches out, all notching up wins, with Barney in his first match and our 6th man closing out his match with a 2&1 win. An important 4 - 2 win, with standings after 2 complete matches: Staffordshire 22 points, Warwickshire 16 points, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire 15 points each.

Warwickshire boys had given themselves a chance, with a simple goal in the last match - just go for it, enjoy and let’s see if we can take all matches against Derbyshire!

By this point in the afternoon it was hot on the course, as was Warwickshires golf! Byron, Logan and Jacob taking 2 wins and a halved match and after Harry won his match 5&4, the Championship was up for grabs. Harper and Bradley both won their games resulting in a 5.5 - 0.5 win over Derbyshire! A fantastic performance and an anxious wait with three matches still on course.

Championship result: A great fight back and 4 Counties Championship win for Warwickshire with 32 points! Nottinghamshire second with 28 points. Staffordshire third with 26 points and Derbyshire with 16 points.
